FLL2025: Taking home the Robot Design Award!

We are so excited to share this milestone for Vertex STEM EDU and all of our students: our youngest First LEGO league team won the Robot Design Award in their very first year of competition!

This achievement is especially meaningful to our team made up of five young students particiaping in First LEGO League for the first time. They’ve spent months on hands-on learning, teamwork, and problem-solving. These students demonstrated an exceptional amount of growth and creativity, earning recognition for their robot design at competition.

What Is the First LEGO League Robot Design Award?

The Robot Design Award celebrates teams that show:

  • Strong engineering fundamentals

  • Thoughtful and intentional robot construction

  • Clear strategy behind design and attachments

  • Continuous improvement through testing and iteration

  • A deep understanding of how coding and hardware work together

This award is special from other award because it doesn’t celebrate having the biggest or flashiest robot, it’s an award that recognizes the teams ability to learn, think, and iterate as little engineers. For a first-year team earning this award is monumental.

Learning Through Hands-On STEM at Vertex STEM EDU

At Vertex STEM EDU, we believe students learn best by doing. Throughout the season, our FLL students:

  • Designed and built a reliable competition robot from scratch

  • Created and iterated upon attachments for different mission challenges

  • Learned essential programming concepts such as logic, precision movement, and sensor use

  • Practiced problem-solving by testing, failing, and improving

  • Built confidence by explaining their design decisions to judges

A Huge Milestone for a First-Year Team

For very young students, stepping into a competitive environment like First LEGO League can be very intimidating. Watching this team grow from beginners into confident presenters and engineers was truly inspiring. Their Robot Design Award not only reflects their technical skill but also their dedication, collaboration, and curiosity.

We are incredibly prooud of our students and grateful to their families for supporting their learning journey!

Looking Ahead

This award marks just the beginning. At Vertex STEM EDU, we are excited to continue helping students explore robotics, engineering, and technology in a supportive, engaging environment that builds real-world skills.

If you’re a parent looking for a hands-on STEM program in robotics, coding, and engineering, we’d love to welcome you to the Vertex STEM EDU community.
